History of Nova Scotia

The past few weeks, Sally, Ruby and I have been trying to get out and do things. We have been to the Interpretive Centre twice to listen to the live music (which Sally calls Magic!) And today, we went to the Highland Villiage Museum . It was super cool. We made a day of it. My Girls, Dena, her sister Catherine and Sallys cousin Brooklyn. It was a girls day out to explore our heritage and spend the day in the beautiful sunshine. It was warm enough that you got hot when walking around, but the lovely breeze cooled you off and made it delightful. The girls ran around in the fields and loved walking through the houses. We saw grins on everyone's faces and joy with being together. A magic day.  The village had characters in each of the buildings and they spoke Gaelic to you and then English. It was like walking through time, with the first house an example of what the people would have lived in in 1700 Scotland. They spoke of coming over on a boat - which would h...

Settling in

We have been taking our time, settling in and trying to enjoy the summer before the hard work commences. Family time with the kiddos and beach time are the priorities. We are trying to establish good habits i.e. eating properly and sourcing our food from local farms. It's been nice getting to know our community. There are 2 farms down the road that produce all that they can eat and an abundance for selling. I hope to negotiate some labor for food when the fall harvest comes. Maybe even before. Ruby loves hanging in the snugglie so we will be a lean, mean, apple/berry/pea picking machine.  (the farm house we live in and the barn) There is so much to explore but I find that I am home bound a lot of the time because of Ruby napping or feeding. I forgot how much your time isn't your own when you have an infant. It will get easier as she gets bigger and stronger, but it's slow going until then. We have managed to go out to a Ceilidh at the local interpretive centre. ...

Sunny summer days

The humidity is a totally different kind of heat. It was 28 degrees yesterday - hot and sunny and so sticky. I am so not used to it. The girls and I made our way down to the beach, Justin had to finish work and then he would join us.  It was a perfect beach day - HOT and sunny. The water was nothing short of magical and we all had a swim... even Ruby.  We spent our day swimming, playing I  the sand, visiting with family as a lot of them came, one by one, to cool off in the water. It was nice to see so many friendly faces and for them to meet Ruby and see Sally again. We had hotdogs and snacks on the beach, it seems everyone brings something and it's like a bit of a potluck, but with snacks. We all had drinks and everyone went in the water... even those of us that are a bit on the chicken side.  Sally had a blast playing with her cousin Brooklyn and swimming with cousin Logan. It's nice for her to have some kids that she can play with. The day ...

We are out of isolation

We have completed our 14 days. No more restrictions for us when it comes to who we can and can't see. There are still rules around masks here, but hopefully that goes away soon too. We have been having a great time visiting with family. Sunday night we had an awesome BBQ with all of Justins siblings. We visited, the kids ran around, the house was alive and buzzing. Once the sun started to go down, we packed up for the beach and had fireworks! All the kids loved it and so did the adults. It was an awesome day. (celebrating Justins birthday with his siblings) The next day was a full on beach day with all the kids in the water for hours. We had hot dogs and snacks on the beach. Ruby had a long, sea air filled nap. Sally ran around in the water until she was blue, came out and dried off, then went back in the ocean. We all had an awesome day. Finally we got home, had a shower and Sally fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. She was still in her towel! I got her cha...
