It's nature!

When telling Sally, "Darling, you have grass in your hair." She looks at me and shrugs "ahhh, it's just nature." And walks away. She has better things to do, now  the sun is shining. Pickles, her constant companion, and her like to race to the mailbox and back. She has yet to win, but never stops trying. Her determination is solid, unwavering. Just like her loyalty to her dog. It's one of the things I admire most about her.

J and Ruby were sitting watching a YouTube show on my phone the other day. She inevitably changed the show, as 2 year olds do. Justin asks her "Ruby, uh oh, what did you do?" She looks up at him with a quirky smile "I pushing buttons Dad!" She exclaims then let's out a chuckle. We all burst out laughing. Her comedic timing is unparalleled in 2 year olds, she is whitty and clever and so very funny. It's one of the things I cherish most about her.

So much waiting has occurred in Justin and I's life together. We have talked about some of the parts of our life for 10 years. He has always wanted a place to call his own on his home island. We are gradually molding it into what we spoke of at nights when we were dreaming of what it would all look like. We have made progress in the past few months with making the property ready for a building or buildings. We have also done a schwack of planting trees and perennials. Its been amazing and so much hard work (for Justin, more than me.)

Justin has sourced trees from the surrounding area and replanted them in our tree row. We have 2 apple trees, a Beech, a White Birch, a Mountain Ash, and a Elderberry tree. They are so beautiful and all seem to be thriving. Best thing is, it only cost us Justin's time and labour... thanks J!!

I was able to find a place that was selling perennials for $5 per so we loaded up the kids and made the 1 hour trek to Sky Glen to get SO many plants. We got Rhubarb, raspberries, bachelor's buttons, Lilies, Roses, Golden Glow flowers, Bell flower, Phlox, Yarrow, Monkshood, and more. Justin planted some beside the driveway and some along the tree row.
We also got some lilac trees, a cranberry, hydrangea, and some bushes for the start of the driveway so nothing else grows there, and it's something we can control the height.

It's starting to some together and I love spending time around my flower patch and garden with the girls.

Update on the property

Just a quick update on the property. We got the tally back from the dumpster and Justin removed 4.6 tones of garbage. He also removed 2 cars, one truck (?) which I have named the Chevy Ford (thanks to my friend Larissa). His work has paid off and now he can just work on felling trees in January. The space has opened up a lot without those vehicles and it's nice to not just see garbage when you walk around the property.  The cars were removed on Tuesday. The truck will hopefully be removed next week. I  am hoping Justin can take a small break over Christmas once his contract ends so he can rest and recuperate. So much work is yet to come.  Onwards and upwards.

More progress!

More progress!! Justin has removed almost all the stumps that are in the way for our driveway. We can now put in our application for a permit so we can get our driveway put in. It's all coming together! before After I've even managed to put in some time this past week! Justin and I planted some boxwood Shrubs along one of the paths behind the shed. It's looking nice, I think! Small changes like this seem to all add up and we have a couple spaces that are nice where we can roam around with the girls. Sally and Ruby both like to be in our space and we try and spend sometime there everyday. Ruby loves to help. All our trees are blooming and the property is starting to come alive. We have frogs and tadpoles in our swamp (Sally calls it Mugwamp swamp). We are going to be putting in some garden beds soon for our food garden. I am also going to be creating a herb spiral so we will have all sorts of delicious foods to eat.  Lots happe...
