The Neighbourhood

Small towns for ya... we have already spent more time with our across the street neighbour's, Tanya and Glenn, than we ever did with any of our neighbour's in Calgary. It has been so nice to be able to get to know the people who surround this house we plan on making a home.
Today, Sally, Ruby and I wandered across the street, kitty corner to our house, to see if the kids that invited Sally over on Friday were still there. Turns out 2 little girls, aged 5 and 3, live there. It is perfect. They spend part of their time at their mothers house but most of it in Coleman. They are polite, delightful little girls who seem to have good imaginations and play ethic. I think Sally was excited to have little friends that were so close, AND... they have a huge outdoor pool that Sally played in until she turned blue.

The Dad, Lance, and I chatted as Ruby cooed and slept. He seems to be a nice man who married the wrong lady. He sounds like he works hard and has lived in the pass his whole life. His little house is cute and about the same size as ours, but his yard is huge. He has a little garden, mostly for the girls, and does things like takes them fishing and swimming in the river. It was nice being able to spend time getting to know our neighbour's and it is SO nice for Sally to have little play friends for the remainder of our time here - and for when we get back next summer.

Tomorrow... the shed better come. That's all I have to say about that.

It's nature!

When telling Sally, "Darling, you have grass in your hair." She looks at me and shrugs "ahhh, it's just nature." And walks away. She has better things to do, now  the sun is shining. Pickles, her constant companion, and her like to race to the mailbox and back. She has yet to win, but never stops trying. Her determination is solid, unwavering. Just like her loyalty to her dog. It's one of the things I admire most about her. J and Ruby were sitting watching a YouTube show on my phone the other day. She inevitably changed the show, as 2 year olds do. Justin asks her "Ruby, uh oh, what did you do?" She looks up at him with a quirky smile "I pushing buttons Dad!" She exclaims then let's out a chuckle. We all burst out laughing. Her comedic timing is unparalleled in 2 year olds, she is whitty and clever and so very funny. It's one of the things I cherish most about her. So much waiting has occurred in Justin and I's life together. ...

Update on the property

Just a quick update on the property. We got the tally back from the dumpster and Justin removed 4.6 tones of garbage. He also removed 2 cars, one truck (?) which I have named the Chevy Ford (thanks to my friend Larissa). His work has paid off and now he can just work on felling trees in January. The space has opened up a lot without those vehicles and it's nice to not just see garbage when you walk around the property.  The cars were removed on Tuesday. The truck will hopefully be removed next week. I  am hoping Justin can take a small break over Christmas once his contract ends so he can rest and recuperate. So much work is yet to come.  Onwards and upwards.

Fall harvest and progress

We are settling into our new schedule. It's been for the better as the girls are quicker to sleep - perhaps we should have switched up the timing sooner!?  Progress is the name of the game right now... we have progress on our property. An excavator spent the day picking stumps and all manner of stuff off the ground and a dozer is going to come in behind it and level it all off. Things are happening - we will soon have a driveway! This all and the culvert is expected on Monday - or when ever it is a little dryer. A hurricane has threatened our progress this weekend. Who knows what will happen with the weather... I do know that the land we have looks incredible. It seems now, in Spring we will have a building going up.... it is all very exciting!! I have managed to get some relish made this past week also - yeah for expanding and learning new skills. Harvest has continued and we have herbs drying, garlic cured and cucumbers to last us another week or so. We just discovere...
