The property

We have purchased 4 acres of trees and bush. Not just a little bit of trees but thick rows of tall trees. The work we have ahead of us is tremendous.
The first thing that J did was make paths from this house to our property. It's a short walk but across a hay field and through some brush... its a walk that you wouldn't do without long pants, sturdy shoes and bug spray - lots of bug spray. This past week J has been gathering Intel... where water pools and runs, how far and long the cut lines the surveyors created are, what the vegetation looks like, and what garbage and refuse we have to dig out from where.
I set to work gathering clippings to try and identify what we have growing on our property. The more we know the better off we will be. We sure found some interesting things...
Time to roll up the old sleeves and get to it... there is a lot of work ahead of us.

Update on the property

Just a quick update on the property. We got the tally back from the dumpster and Justin removed 4.6 tones of garbage. He also removed 2 cars, one truck (?) which I have named the Chevy Ford (thanks to my friend Larissa). His work has paid off and now he can just work on felling trees in January. The space has opened up a lot without those vehicles and it's nice to not just see garbage when you walk around the property.  The cars were removed on Tuesday. The truck will hopefully be removed next week. I  am hoping Justin can take a small break over Christmas once his contract ends so he can rest and recuperate. So much work is yet to come.  Onwards and upwards.

Fall harvest and progress

We are settling into our new schedule. It's been for the better as the girls are quicker to sleep - perhaps we should have switched up the timing sooner!?  Progress is the name of the game right now... we have progress on our property. An excavator spent the day picking stumps and all manner of stuff off the ground and a dozer is going to come in behind it and level it all off. Things are happening - we will soon have a driveway! This all and the culvert is expected on Monday - or when ever it is a little dryer. A hurricane has threatened our progress this weekend. Who knows what will happen with the weather... I do know that the land we have looks incredible. It seems now, in Spring we will have a building going up.... it is all very exciting!! I have managed to get some relish made this past week also - yeah for expanding and learning new skills. Harvest has continued and we have herbs drying, garlic cured and cucumbers to last us another week or so. We just discovere...

Update

It's been a while... sorry folks.  November - we were all sick for most of it. In the middle of it, Sally turned 6! My parents visited for 5 days while the girls were at their sickest, so while it was nice to have extra hands to help, it wasn't the visit we imagined. Oh... and we got a puppy... Pickles, our black lab. Sally had wanted a dog for ages and this was her 6th birthday gift. December was filled with holidays stuff, another birthday and so much work. I finished working for WJ at the end of December and honestly, it's been one of the better decisions we've made. I also had some contact work during the Christmas holidays so it was busy. January we started homeschooling Sally again. She wasn't feeling school and we hated to send her on the 45 min bus ride (each way) and 6.5 hour school day. We also didnt really like the school either. She is an eager learner and likes learning so she makes it easier on me than most kids, I feel. February was winter - gloomy an...
